Most predictions about people’s future are based on past trends or the hypothesis that parts of the body that are used frequently will grow, or those that are used less will shrink. Will technology replace our need for strong limbs? Will too much TV lead to square eyes? Will we see giant brains in science fiction movies?

Will Humans Continue To Evolve
Many of these predictions are not based on the principles of biology and evolution. Although we do not know what events will occur in the future that may affect how we change, it is possible to place restrictions on what can happen. Some of the proposed changes are highlighted below.

Although we have smaller jaws than in the past, and less space for the 32 adult teeth, it is possible that no major change will occur in the number of teeth. We may not use all of our brains today, but for small brains to be common in our species, there must be an advantage in such a feature. There is a direct relationship between the size of our brain and the size of our body and this relationship cannot be changed.
The trend over the past 300 years has been for larger groups, but this cannot continue indefinitely. The size cannot be increased beyond a certain limit because the mechanical requirements of very large bodies are different from those of medium-sized bodies. By changing the size of the body a lot, there must be a change in the shape of the body.

In terms of humans’ natural ability to adapt to a warmer world, it is possible that we can evolve to become more heat tolerant. However difficult it is, there are too many losses related to climate change that one must try to understand and accept in order to understand the urgency of the situation. There is death, like the number of people killed by a heat wave in the Pacific Northwest last month, or the hundreds lost in floods in China and India in the last two weeks. There is abandonment of homes and difficulties of those who are forced to leave them. There is extinction of species, animals and plants and coral reefs and all kinds of living things that we depend on and share the environment with.
